Castlefield Viaduct and walks

Following on from City of Trees’ partner plot on the new Castlefield Viaduct, we are excited to announce a series of guided tree walks around the Castlefield area - Take a Detour with a Tree Tour

Take a Detour with a Tree Tour as City of Trees lead an hour long walk, looking at the trees in the Castlefield area, learning how to id different species, details about the trees along the walk and with some fun facts about the history of this rich and varied part of the city thrown in for good measure!

The walks meet at the entrance to the Castlefield Viaduct where attendees will first given a guided tour of the National Trust’s Castlefield Viaduct, Manchester’s first ‘sky park’, including City of Trees’ partner plot on the viaduct, ‘Greater Manchester’s trees – past, present and future’.

The walk will then leave from the viaduct, down to the Castlefield area below for an hour’s guided walk through the old industrial heart of the city, visiting trees and landmarks along the way.

The dates for confirmed walks are as follows:

  • Thursday 25 August - 16:30-18:00
  • Saturday 27 August - 10:00 - 11:30
  • Thursday 1 September - 16:30-18:00
  • Thursday 8 September 16:30-18:00
  • Saturday 10 September - 10:00-11:30
  • Thursday 22 September - 16:30-18:00

Each walk is limited to 10 people.

Please note, a general level of fitness is required for the walks and appropriate footwear is advised, likewise, please come prepared for the Manchester weather.
