Our Urban Forest

Growing Greater Manchester’s Urban Forest

As the Community Forest for the second largest urban area in the country, we’re well-placed to champion the benefits of the urban forest. We know the woodlands in the region aren’t always the largest – but that’s okay.

For us, it’s about bringing more trees to the places where people live, integrating green infrastructure into the fabric of Greater Manchester, and helping to foster connection to those trees where we live and work.

Where is the urban forest?

Greater Manchester’s urban forest is all around us – on our streets, in our parks, on previously derelict land, and in our peri-urban areas. Our forest includes broadleaved mixed woodlands, ancient woodlands, clough woodlands and wet woodlands, upland oak woodlands and wood pasture. These sit alongside veteran and notable trees and newly planted trees.

Our urban forest is the nature that’s right on the doorsteps of the people who live in Greater Manchester, that’s why access to good woodlands and good quality of greenspace is vital – we know the benefits it brings! Our urban forest thrives when we’re connected.
