Ardwick local food project

In Manchester we helped three schools and a group of local residents to get growing.

On this local growing project we ran apple pressing and food tasting sessions with kids from St Luke’s, Medlock and Plymouth Grove primary schools in Ardwick, Manchester.

The children then chose the fruit trees they wanted in the school grounds, and we planted a mini orchard in each school including apple, pear, cherry and plum.

We also added raised beds and supplied tools, equipment, seeds and advice to help them grow other food.

Residents on nearby Artillery Court were also given tubs, seeds and tools as well as guidance on how to grow, care for and harvest crops. We also delivered training on fruit tree pruning to help the community care for the orchard in years to come.
