17 July 2017
Working alongside Bruntwood in their Feature Garden the leading environmental charity will be delivering a range of activities to engage and inspire.
City of Trees is hosting special activities and talks over the course of the RHS Flower Show Tatton Park, 19 – 24 July, including foraging walks and talks, an introduction to forest bathing as well as family-friendly activity sessions.
The activities are designed to enhance and complement partner Bruntwood’s feature garden ‘The Bruntwood Experiment’ which champions urban greening through an exploration of the different ways we can use the often overlooked plants, written off as weeds, naturally colonising our urban spaces.
The experiment aims to show how these plants can thrive, contributing to the biodiversity and overall wellbeing of a community.
City of Trees, in partnership with Discover the Wild, will be hosting a ‘Forage & Feast’ walk showcasing the fruits of the urban forest, and demonstrating how even in the most urban of spaces, items like blackberries and lavender can be foraged to make amazing edible creations.
In addition Dr. Oliver Bishop will be hosting a session introducing the Japanese concept of forest bathing, showing how trees and woods, even in an urban setting, can contribute to our mindfulness.
Alongside the activities City of Trees will be talking to people about their Heritage Trees project which aims to celebrate and record our local tree heritage - the trees, woodlands, hedgerows and orchards which are part of the fabric of our towns and cities.
The team will be asking people to share their stories and memories of their favourite trees and woods.
The stories collected on the day will have a lasting legacy and be uploaded online at www.heritagetrees.org.uk – creating a unique, interactive online database.
This is the second year that City of Trees has been at the show, supported by partner Bruntwood.
