Join us at Balmoral Orchard in Urmston, Trafford for community hazel coppicing and become a Citizen Forester with City of Trees!
The Details
Balmoral Orchard is home to a collection of veteran fruit trees which are protected from the wind by a border of multi-stemmed, shrubby hazel. On this day, we will be coppicing some of the hazel as it is interfering with the growth of the fruit trees. The coppiced hazel can then be used by the allotment owners to make fence posts, bean poles, pea sticks and more!
All tools will be provided, please wear suitable clothing for outdoor work and sturdy footwear. Our team will teach you proper coppicing techniques so please arrive at 10am to listen for this tutorial. You will be guided throughout the day so no prior experience is necessary.
