Citizen Forester Meadow Management at Stretford Meadows, Trafford

The Details

Join us for a day of woodland management and become a Citizen Forester with City of Trees!

We are carrying out this work to maintain healthy and sustainable scrub pockets within the meadows at Stretford Meadows, to improve wet areas of the habitat that support local wildlife and the surrounding community.

All tools will be provided; please wear suitable clothing for outdoor work and sturdy footwear. Drop in for an hour or stay the whole day – you will be guided throughout the day so no prior experience is necessary. This activity is suitable for adults and older children.

The work we’ll be doing will involve using tools like bill hooks, loppers, secateurs, tree poppers, pruning saws and bow saws. We will be using these tools to lay willow limbs, cut back bramble and halo thin around trees. Litter pickers will also be provided. Training will be provided on the day.

Parking/public transport

• There is limited residential parking along Elm Drive and Cherry Tree Walk. Please be mindful of leaving space for residents to use their driveways.
• Buses 23 and 255 operate in the area, and bus 15 operates between Manchester Oxford Road and Firwood Avenue bus stop, which is a 5-minute walk from the site.

About the site

Stretford Meadows is a Public Park. The area where we will be working has uneven ground, thick vegetation, and informal paths through the woodland. A portaloo will be available on site for volunteer use.
