Citizen Forester Woodland Management at Stretford Meadows, Trafford

The Details

Join us for a day of woodland management and become a Citizen Forester with City of Trees!

We are carrying out this work to maintain a healthy and sustainable woodland that supports local wildlife and the surrounding community.

All tools will be provided; please wear suitable clothing for outdoor work and sturdy footwear. Drop in for an hour or stay the whole day – you will be guided throughout the day so no prior experience is necessary. This activity is suitable for adults and older children.

The work we’ll be doing will involve using tools like loppers, secateurs, pruning saws . We will be using these tools open up pathways by pruning back some trees and removing encroaching bramble.

Please arrive at 10am for the tool safety talk.

Time & Location

  • 10 am – 3 pm at Stretford Meadows
  • Closest entrance to working area is opposite 58 Elm Dr, Stretford, Manchester M32 9AR – what3words: ///hands.front.shots
  • Working area will be around ///hotel.plot.ducks, look out for our flag!

Parking/public transport

  • There is limited residential parking along Elm Drive and Cherry Tree Walk. Please be mindful of leaving space for residents to use their driveways.
  • Buses 15, 23, 245, 255, 756, 766, 798 operate within the area.
  • The closest tram stop is Stretford and is approx. a 20 min walk from site.

Stretford Meadows is a Public Park within the Mersey Valley. The area where we will be working has uneven ground, thick vegetation, and informal paths through the woodland. A portaloo will be available on site for volunteer use.
