Citizen Forester Tree Maintenance at Sandyforth, Orrell, Wigan

The Details

Join us for a day of tree maintenance and become a Citizen Forester with City of Trees!

By carrying out tree maintenance we will be giving our young trees at Sandyforth some Tree-LC. We will be carrying out this work to ensure that the these trees reach establishment and create woodland areas that will support the local wildlife whilst also responding to the climate emergency. As part of this work we will be carrying out vegetation removal and replacing mulch matts and woodchip around the base of previously planted sapling trees.

All tools will be provided; please wear suitable clothing for outdoor work and sturdy footwear. Drop in for an hour or stay the whole day – you will be guided throughout the day so no prior experience is necessary. This activity is suitable for Adults and Older Chilren. Activities may require the use of sharp tools. If you are interested in bringing young children to this event please contact our team to see how you can be involved.

• Driving north on Winstanley road, entrance located on the right half a mile north of Garswood United Football Club.

Parking/public transport

• There is parking available at the meeting point.
• Getting the bus: the 952 bus goes past the meeting point between Windy Arbour bus stop and Leyland Green Road bs stop.
• Windy Arbour is the closest bus stop 15 minutes walk from the meeting point. Please be advised the walking rout to the meeting point takes you on Winstanley Road.

About the site

Sandyforth is located on a farm. The area where we will be working has uneven ground due to vegetation, and can become muddy following rainfall. Access to the working area follows a farm track, please bring apropriate footware. A portaloo will be available on site for volunteer use.
