Nature BioBlitz at Priory Gardens, Trafford

The Details

Join us for a day of wildlife exploration and discover an array of pond, meadow and woodland species with City of Trees! During the day we will be recording the biodiversity we see on site, helping to inform future management plans for Priory Gardens.

Activities we will be carrying out throughout the day include:

  • Bird survey: walk around the site slowly and record any ID’d birds
  • Meadow surveys: sweep netting for meadow-dwelling invertebrates and working with our wildflower specialists to ID wildflowers
  • Woodland surveys: spot the Manchester poplar! Learning to look at leaf litter and ID trees
  • Pond Surveys: Pond dipping and identifying invertebrates and amphibians in the pond with our herp specialist
  • Invasive Non-Native Species mapping (INNS): Us mapping tools to map the INNS across the site to inform future management strategies.

During this event we will be using smartphones to record species spotted during the event. If you have a smartphone available for the day please download the iNaturalist app and search for the ‘Project’ ‘Priory Gardens BioBlitz’ in order to record species on the day. If you do not have access to a smart phone or wish to record on paper copies there will be this option on the day.

All tools will be provided; please wear suitable clothing for outdoor work and sturdy footwear. Drop in for an hour or stay the whole day – you will be guided throughout the day so no prior experience is necessary. This activity is suitable for adults and children of all ages.
