Citizen Forester Woodland Management at Sunnybank Vale, Tameside

The Details

Join us for a day of Woodland Management & Tree Planting and become a Citizen Forester with City of Trees!

We will be cutting back blackthorn, carrying out clearance works and planting understory trees. These works will involve cutting back blackthorn to promote more dense, bushy growth, removing overgrown vegetation around paths and planting shade tolerant trees inside the woodland. We are carrying out this work to maintain a healthy and sustainable woodland that supports local wildlife and the surrounding community.

All tools will be provided; please wear suitable clothing for outdoor work and sturdy footwear. The tools we will be using for these activities are pruning saws, loppers, secateurs, spades and shears. As these activities involve the use of sharp tools, this event is suitable for adults only. Drop in for an hour or stay the whole day – you will be guided throughout the day so no prior experience is necessary.

• 10am – 3pm. We will start at 10am, please note we may finish earlier than 3pm if all the work is completed.

• There is free on road parking on the housing estate adjacent to Sunnybank Vale.
• The nearest bus stop(s) are Chatsworth Road on Edge Lane (Stop ID: MANDAPGP) and St Martin’s Church on Greenside Lane (Stop ID: MANTMWMJ). The following bus routes stop there: 171, 172, 230, 231, 793 and 864. The nearest tram stop is Cemetery Road on the Blue Line.

About the site

Sunnybank Vale is a publicly accessible green space. The area where we will be working has dense vegetation in places, even ground and hard standing paths.

A portaloo will be available on site for volunteer use.
