Citizen Forester tree maintenance at Pear Mill, Stockport

The Details

Join us for a day of tree maintenance and become a Citizen Forester with City of Trees!

We will be carrying out important tree maintenance, giving our young trees at Pear Mill some Tree-LC. During this session we will be removing competiting vegetation from around the young trees and replacing mulch matts and woodchip. We will be carrying out this work to ensure that these trees reach establishment and create woodland areas that will support the local wildlife whilst also responding to the climate emergency.

All tools will be provided; please wear suitable clothing for outdoor work and sturdy footwear. Please note that this site has dense vegetation including bramble and nettles, we would recommend that you wear long sleeves and trousers when attending this event.

Drop in for an hour or stay the whole day – you will be guided throughout the day so no prior experience is necessary. This activity is suitable for adults and older children this is because vegetation removal may require the use of sharp tools. • Car parking is available at Pear Mill, please ensure to park in the designated car parking areas and not in the lorry park.
• The nearest bus stop is: Welkin Road Stop ID: MANJDAWP. The nearest train station is Stockport which is a bus ride away from the site.

About the site

Pear Mill is a former mill turned into an industrial and retail space. The area where we will be working in has thick vegetation cover including brambles and nettles. Due to the thick vegetation the ground is uneven on foot. There are no formal paths in the areas where we will be working. A portaloo will be available on site for volunteer use.
