Stuart Cairns

Development Coordinator (Land Projects)

Stuart has worked in both the private and public sectors of forestry for over 35 years before joining the City of Trees team in 2022.   He started with the Forestry Commission in the Gwydyr Forest in Snowdonia where he trained for two years before taking up his professional studies and qualifications at Newton Rigg Forestry college in Penrith, Cumbria. He has also worked in the Cotswolds on the Ebworth Estate near Stroud. After qualifying in 1990, he worked for private sector forestry where he undertook all types of tree, woodland and landscaping related contracting across the North of England. Most recently he worked for Bolton Council for 24 years, initially joining the council as their Woodland Officer and finally as Tree & Woodland Manager. He has a passion for woodland creation and all the benefits that they bring to the environment, nature conservation and most importantly people’s health and well-being.  His favourite tree is the Yew tree due to its longevity and mythology.
